Pump the Brakes

I don’t quit. It just isn’t in my DNA. Not only that, but I always finish what I begin.
So when prompted me to halt a post graduate certificate I had already begun, it took a lot in me to be obedient.
For some, not starting a class is a no-brainer, no tears lost. But for me, it took everything within me-to listen and obey.
Sometimes God has us pump the brakes on our routine- our status quo. He has greater insight than we can fathom. So when he calls us to pump the brakes, we better listen! There is a reason- he knows better than me!
In early November, I was ending an eight-week course for my five-class program. At this point in my education career, completing five courses was a piece of cake. I had hit a rhythm- a stride. I would be done in less than a year. There was no reasonable reason for me to not continue. Or was there?
The day before I began that next course, I felt a stirring= something was off. This didn’t feel right anymore. I was questioning if I should even take the class.
So while it didn’t make sense, I listened to the Spirit’s stirring and postponed the class by two weeks. I made the change, scheduled it for Thanksgiving Day which gave me ample time to reset, refresh and engage in the Biblical mandate of rest (Hebrews 3).
But I had no foresight into what would transpire two weeks from that day. I could have never prepared myself. But guess what, God knew better!
Two weeks later, I was diagnosed with a medical condition and told I had to have surgery and SOON.
A month later, I had my surgery. Without even knowing it, God had prepared me for what was to come. For this was only the beginning of the journey I was about to embark on. Looking back on it now, it all makes sense. If I had been in that intense class while I was going through my procedures, I don’t know how I would have survived. Praise God that he intervened and knows better than me!
When God asks us to pump the brakes- it is our job to listen. He sees the big picture. He has all the puzzle pieces. He is calling us into obedience.
Sometimes what God speaks to us does not make sense in our mortal minds, but we have the choice to the choice to listen and obey.
“Today if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” Hebrews 3: 8
Follow through in obedience- not rebellion. Ultimately, we have a choice.
When God speaks, he speaks for a reason- with power and authority. He seeks to work everything out for his purpose and our eventual good. Romans 8:28
When God asks you to pump the brakes, even when it doesn’t make sense, listen and obey!
He is looking out for you. He is on your side.
As my current favorite song Waymaker says,
“Even when I don’t see it, you’re working. Even when I don’t feel it, you’re working. You never stop, you never stop working!
God was protecting me from an even worse situation than the one I was about to face.
So, remember, when he speaks- listen. Soften your heart. Respond in obedience. Stand back. Pump the brakes. And see what he does.
